If you are considering a possibility of buying a Boxer, there are a great number of things to know about Boxers in terms of caring, raising and handling. You must also familiarize yourselves with the breed standard and with some tips on choosing the appropriate breeder in order to avoid buying a faulty species from a dollar-oriented puppy-mill.
When choosing a breeder, pay attention to his or her readiness to talk to you about the breed, its history, problems and prospects. A qualified breeder will be open about the breed's drawbacks and he or she is not going to be reluctant to tell you about the shortcomings of a particular species, its health problems and pedigree background.
Also, note the overall condition in the breeder's house. How well are the dogs and the puppies feeling? Are they lively and playful, or gloomy and haggard? Pay attention to the amount of pets in the house. True breeders deal in breeding of no more than two breeds of dogs, and not in large quantities. This gives them a chance to monitor their pet's condition and recognize health disorders and behavior concerns.
True breeders consider their job a profession, and they accept personal responsibility for the well-being of the breed. Therefore, they will do their best to learn as much as possible about you, and this study will involve a visit to your house. The goal of such visit is to make sure your home provides ample conditions for the pups. Breeders must know about your family, other animals in the house and your children.
A breeder must have all necessary club registry documentation, which entitles him or her to present dogs at show rings and to take part in breeding programs. The breeder may refuse to sell his or her puppy to you if there is something about you, your house or your family that makes you unfit to raise Boxers.
